Sammy’s Got A Groove On (AGMS Piano Odyssey)

Sammy’s Got a Groove On evokes a happy, cruisy-bluesy mood.

Use your imagination to create a picture or a story to depict what is happening in the music … for me, in writing this piece, I had a picture of a big, lanky, shaggy dog like a Groodle or an Irish Wolfhound, strutting his way down the street (with his cool sunnies on), nodding and smiling at all the passers-by.  But that’s just my picture – Sammy could be anyone or anything …

Focus areas for technique include arm weight on single left hand notes and chords to replicate a double bass; drop-roll forearm gestures to enable accurate articulations of slurs; voicing – to bring out the important melodic elements; Glissandi; Dynamics and Expression to create a picture and/or a mood.
